Emerging Applications, Social Software and Immersive Platforms in the Spotlight
04/01/2009
April 1, 2009, Chatsworth, CA - 1105 Media’s 16th annual Campus Technology Conference and Expo, produced by 1105 Media in partnership with Campus Technology magazine, will open at Massachusetts’ Boston Convention and Exhibition Center on July 27. With campuses around the country facing unprecedented budget cuts for the 2010 school year as a result of today’s economic crisis, decision-makers are looking for inventive techniques and ideas to help them weather funding shortfalls and continue providing their students with the best education possible. And thanks to a robust conference program, education professionals—ranging from provosts and CIOs to tech-using instructors—will find a variety of solutions, many at low or no cost, for their campus challenges, at Campus Technology 2009.
This year Campus Technology 2009, the nation’s premier higher education technology conference, tackles the post-Web 2.0 world—the emerging applications, social software and immersive platforms that will change education and how we interact with the world around us. All workshops, general sessions and seminars will focus on the latest, most cutting-edge in web technology, software and services that are revolutionizing education for both teachers and students.
Pre-conference workshops, presented by the experts pioneering the educational applications of these technologies, will provide in-depth instruction and analysis on these new tools, and how they work right now, on real campuses throughout the country. Concurrent sessions in four track categories will allow attendees to focus on the presentations most relevant to their work and campus challenges. These four tracks—"Learning Infrastructure," "New Media for Instruction," "The Digital Campus" and "Web 2.0 and Social Software,"—allow attendees to personalize their conference experience by choosing the tracks and sessions most relevant to their work and initiatives, and come away from the conference armed with tips and techniques that allow them to survive—and thrive—in a Web 2.0 world.
"Web services, social software, rich media and cloud computing are creating a particularly dynamic environment that is transforming all aspects of higher education," said Wendy LaDuke, President and Group Publisher for 1105 Media’s Education Group, producer of the event. "The adoption of new technologies on campus has always fostered change in higher education, and Campus Technology conferences have consistently provided professionals in higher education with the information they need to make both instruction and operations more efficient and effective."
Other outstanding features of this year’s conference include a keynote address by speaker Chris Dede, Timothy E. Wirth Professor in Learning Technologies at Harvard’s Graduate School of Education. Dede’s Keynote Address, "Emerging Interactive Media: Implications for Teaching and Research," will detail his experience and strategy for mastering new media and harnessing its transformative power in both teaching and research. Additionally, the 2009 exhibit hall will showcase the latest software, hardware and services from top technology vendors, including conference sponsors Dell, CDW-G, eCollege, Hobsons, Mediasite and Atempo.
The Boston Convention and Exhibition Center, site of this year’s conference, is located less than three miles from Logan International Airport, and within walking distance of many of Boston’s most popular attractions, including the New England Aquarium, the Boston Children’s Museum, the Boston Design Center, and the Bank of America Pavilion for music lovers. The hotel is also just minutes from the city’s famous Financial District, the Back Bay, North and South Ends, Faneuil Hall Marketplace and Fenway Park, affording attendees with many entertainment options at the close of the conference day.
