May 19, 2008, Chatsworth, CA—Campus Technology 2008, the 15th annual higher education technology conference and expo will open at the Westin Boston Waterfront Hotel in Boston, MA on July 28. This year’s conference, which runs through July 31, focuses on Web 2.0 and the cutting-edge communication and collaboration technologies that facilitate creativity, information sharing, and community. Under the theme “Welcome to Next-Gen.Edu,” all workshops, general sessions, and special MIT campus tours will examine the applications, software, and services that are revolutionizing education on today’s campuses.
Keynoting the event will be Adrian Sannier, University Technology Officer at Arizona State University. This innovative and outspoken campus technology leader is defining the technological standards for a modern learning institution—one that is radically different from the campus of the past. Sannier, formerly with Iowa State University’s Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering, is an expert in human/computer interaction and three-dimensional visualization as well as a seasoned campus executive. His opening talk, “A ‘New’ American University for Next-Gen Learners,” will detail his experience implementing the ground-breaking initiatives in support of ASU President Michael Crow’s vision for a 21st century campus. Sannier will discuss his strategy for serving the technological needs of today’s digital natives, as well as how to look ahead to the needs of future generations of students.
Among the other outstanding features of this year’s conference are the custom guided tours of education technology projects at MIT, an institution internationally renowned for its advancements in technology and pedagogy. Pre-conference attendees will have the opportunity to see first hand select projects and architectural spaces comprising this important work. Tour options include Microsoft-funded iCampus Initiative highlights, the Frank Gehry-designed Stata Center, the recently expanded MIT Museum, and self-guided campus explorations.
The conference will be held at the Westin Boston Waterfront Hotel and the adjacent Boston Convention and Exhibition Center (BCEC), less than three miles from Logan International Airport. Boston has been a favorite location with Campus Technology conference attendees over the years, thanks to its many cultural and historical sites and easily navigable transportation system. The Westin Boston Waterfront Hotel is within walking distance or a short “T” ride of many of Boston’s most popular attractions.
