Falls Church, Va. – April 21, 2008 – GovSec, U.S. Law and Ready Conference and Exposition, has announced that Marina Litvinenko, widow of ex-KGB officer poisoned in London with radioactive material, will discuss state-sponsored terrorism in a keynote address on April 24.
“We must expose the people who sent an assassin to London with a weapon of mass destruction in a suitcase. If they went to such lengths to get rid of my husband, imagine what they would do if their larger interests are at stake. That’s why I am so grateful to US Congress for naming the suspect government,” said Marina Litvinenko at the announcement of her keynote.
Earlier this month, the US House of Representatives in a resolution expressed “significant concerns about the potential involvement of elements of the Russian government in Mr. Litvinenko's death and about the security and proliferation of radioactive materials.”
Litvinenko will review the unsuccessful British campaign to extradite the key suspect from Russia, and will describe her quest for justice amidst adverse political and diplomatic realities. The keynote was made possible by the Litvinenko Justice Foundation, formed to secure justice for the Litvinenko family and educate the public about the case.
“This was the first ever terrorist attack using nuclear material, which introduced Polunium- 210 as a potential terror weapon. We wanted to highlight the security aspect of the Litvinenko murder for the professional community. Russia denies involvement, but obstructs investigation. If they did not do it, they must open their Polonium production to international scrutiny,” said Alex Goldfarb, President of the Foundation.
The keynote will take place Thursday, April 24 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. To attend, please register at: www.govsecinfo.com
